Senate Names Farm Bill Conferees
Last week, the Senate named nine Senators to serve on the Farm Bill Conference Committee. These Senate Conferees will work with the previously announced House Conferees to work out the many differences between the House and Senate passed farm bills. The lead Republican and Democratic Members of the House and Senate Agriculture Committees, and their staffs, have begun conversations about how to move forward on a final bill. An official Conference Committee meeting date has not yet been announced, as the Senate is in recess this week, and the House is not scheduled to return until after Labor Day. SLMA continues to advocate for inclusion of the Timber Innovation Act and a permanent legislative fix to prevent government agencies from giving procurement preference to specific forest certification systems.
